A request from Kazuyoshi Takeda, President of the Tokyo Orions baseball team to have three instructors from the Dodgers assist the Orions for their spring training in Maui, Hawaii is approved by Walter O’Malley. Dodger coach Jim Gilliam, future Hall of Famer Duke Snider (who served the organization as a hitting instructor) and prominent pitching coach Red Adams spent 10 days with the Orion club to further baseball development for Japanese teams.
