Walter O’Malley’s mother Alma Feltner is born in New York City. She is the fourth daughter of German-born Dorothy Schmaus and F. George Feltner of Bavaria. Alma, who had four sisters and three brothers, passed away on June 1, 1940 in Amityville, New York.

Kay O’Malley serves as Chairwoman of the annual bridge, tea and fashion show of the Greater New York and Long Island Chapter of the Alumnae Association of the College of New Rochelle. The event, at the Plaza Hotel in New York, is for the benefit of the Chapter’s charitable activities.

In Vero Beach, Florida, Walter O’Malley meets with Los Angeles officials including Mayor Norris Poulson; County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn; John Gibson, President of the City Council; Samuel Leask, City Administration Officer; John Leach, County Chief Administrative Officer; and Milton Arthur, Chairman of the County Recreation Commission, who came to Dodgertown to persuade O’Malley that L.A. was ready for Major League Baseball and wanted the Dodgers to relocate. According to Dodger P.R. Director Red Patterson’s notes, the agenda calls for the Los Angeles party to board the Dodger plane in Miami bound for Vero Beach at 8 a.m., visit Dodgertown and then “be guests of Dodger Director, Bud Holman, at his fishing and hunting camp, from which point the party will return directly to the (Dodgertown) Press Room for a press conference. The time for this conference will be 5:00 PM. Following dinner the party will be returned to Miami.”

Franklin Payne, Publisher of the Los Angeles Examiner, encourages Walter O’Malley to relocate the Dodgers in Los Angeles. In his letter, Payne writes, “In my own personal opinion, this will be the greatest move that could be made not only for the Dodgers, but for Los Angeles and all of Southern California. This community wants major league baseball and nothing would please us more than having such an outstanding organization as the Dodgers, especially when it is headed by a man of your ability and integrity. I will predict that when the Dodgers come to Southern California, the spirit...the loyalty...the attendance...and the over-all support and pride will exceed that of Milwaukee. This is a ‘natural’ if there ever was one.”

The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association is the proud recipient of the donation of two Cheetah cubs, one male and one female, from Walter O’Malley. The cubs were taken into captivity by O’Malley in Nairobi, Kenya in East Africa and flown to Los Angeles for exhibit.
