More than 1,300 fans attend the Dodger Knothole Club “Welcome Home” Dinner in Brooklyn’s Hotel St. George. Walter O’Malley, Dodger Manager Charlie Dressen and his players and Brooklyn Borough President John Cashmore are among those attending. The Knothole Club annually arranged for complimentary tickets to Dodger games for Brooklyn youth.

Famed cartoonist Karl Hubenthal shows San Francisco Giants owner Horace Stoneham and Dodger President Walter O’Malley each with their own Easter eggs. Hubenthal’s cartoon depicts a smiling Stoneham as the Giants will play in a municipal stadium to be built by the city of San Francisco. O’Malley, on the other hand, is holding a cracked egg with the words “Red Tape” and “Empty Promises” on it, as he tries to privately build his own stadium in Los Angeles. In the end, however, after overcoming countless challenges, O’Malley achieved his dream stadium as Dodger Stadium opened in 1962.

Walter O’Malley asks California Governor Ronald Reagan to lend support for a commemorative United States postage stamp celebrating 100 Years of professional Major League Baseball. O’Malley encourages Gov. Reagan to write to Postmaster General Marvin Watson to issue the commemorative Centennial stamp.
