The Sporting News carries this story about the 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers. After winning the World Championship the previous October, the club went into a brief slump in late May. Vice President Buzzie Bavasi made a visit to Chicago to see the Dodgers play on the road and assess the team. Although Bavasi planned to stay just one or two days in Chicago, the club went on a hot streak. With the Dodgers now winning, Walter O’Malley didn’t want to change the good fortunes and he sent this telegram to Bavasi, “Stay with the club. Will send your trunk and toothbrush.”2

Walter O’Malley sends a note to actor Cary Grant regarding the packages of Fabergé miniatures which arrived at Dodger Stadium for distribution in the President’s Box when a Dodger player hits a home run. “We have been under attack by express delivery men parading in and out of the office with one huge package after another. My box will be more popular now when I can reward attentive fans with substantial gifts...Many, many thanks and we look forward to having you join us in the box on your return from Europe.” Grant became a director of Fabergé in 1966.
