New York Sun drama critic and “Broadway After Dark” columnist Ward Morehouse is a guest of Walter O’Malley at Ebbets Field for the Dodgers and Cardinals game. O’Malley told Morehouse, “Look at that (Stan) Musial. We pitch to him by the book, we try to keep him from pulling the ball against the fence or over it, but he’s often better than the book. Every game the Dodgers play is like a World Series game, because every game is so important. These games in the middle of the summer mean a great deal. If we had only won just one more game last July, if we had taken just one of those that we lost by a run, that last-inning hit of Bobby Thomson’s couldn’t have ruined us.” Morehouse used this quote in his column on June 30.
June 24, 1954
Walter O’Malley donates Dodger tickets to the Brooklyn Protestant Council for the second straight year. The Council, which includes women, is to benefit with proceeds from the tickets distributed in its community work. The Dodgers play the Cincinnati Reds on June 24.
