In Chicago, Illinois, Walter O’Malley sends a joint telegram to Branch Rickey, President of the Continental League and William Shea, attorney, stating: “National League voted unanimously to implement expansion via Continental League or increased membership. Invite you to meet National League Committee your convenience. Please advise time and place.” The telegram was jointly sent by O’Malley and team owners Lou Perini (Milwaukee), John Galbreath (Pittsburgh) and Robert M. Carpenter (Philadelphia).
