This Day in Walter O’Malley History:

  • On May 29th, soon to be Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Jackie Robinson greeted the Los Angeles Dodgers on their arrival at the Hotel Roosevelt in New York City, as written by Frank Finch of the Los Angeles Times. On May 30th, the Dodgers swept a doubleheader from the first-year New York Mets in the Polo Grounds by scores of 13-6 and 6-5. It was the first time the Dodgers played a regular season game in New York since 1957. In the first game, Dodger shortstop Maury Wills became the sixth player in major league history by hitting a home run from the left side and the right side in the same game.
