This Day in Walter O’Malley History:

  • Still holding a lease on Ebbets Field from real estate developer Marvin Kratter, Walter O’Malley writes to Bud Holman that he is making arrangements to remove up to 6,800 box seats and have them shipped to Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida for use in Holman Stadium the following spring. “You and I discussed this with (former Dodgertown Director) Edgar (Allen) and I sort of think it would be nice to dress up Holman Stadium with these box seats,” said O’Malley.

  • Walter O’Malley receives recognition on his home soil as the Japanese Consul of Los Angeles congratulates him on the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays With Neck Ribbon honor previously presented in Japan on November 15, 1966. O’Malley’s recognition was largely because of the U.S.-Japanese friendship he helped to develop through baseball and cultural exchanges at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida.
