In the first of only two exhibition games to be played at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida, the Dodgers defeat the Philadelphia Athletics, 5-1, before 3,248 fans. The Vero Beach High School band provides music and, before the game, acting Mayor Lewis Berger welcomes the crowd and introduces Walter O’Malley.
