This Day in Walter O’Malley History:

  • New York Mayor Robert Wagner requests a meeting with New York Giants owner Horace Stoneham and Dodger President Walter O’Malley regarding their intentions for the future. A meeting date of June 4 is set.

  • Walter O’Malley speaks at a luncheon in Montreal, the site of the Dodger Triple-A minor league team, regarding the need for a new baseball stadium for the city. The Dodgers had recently sold Delorimier Park in Montreal. Roscoe McGowen writes in The Sporting News that O’Malley considered Montreal to be a major league city. O’Malley even brought along a professional scale model of a new baseball stadium for Brooklyn which included a revolutionary new design with its translucent dome, moveable seating sections and half the stadium below ground level.
