This Day in Walter O’Malley History:

  • Upon his family’s return from the Dodgers’ 1956 Goodwill Tour to Japan and several stops in Europe, Walter O’Malley writes a letter to John Cashmore, President of the Borough of Brooklyn about the lack of progress on the concept of a new multi-purpose stadium at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues. “We had a fine trip and our stay in Rome was much more enjoyable because of the beautiful books on Rome that you had given (daughter) Terry after you and Edythe returned. Sorry there was not better news on my return regarding the stadium but let’s be patient a bit longer and if things do not seem to be working out we will have to be practical and reluctantly go elsewhere.”
