Upper Deck Releases Blockbuster 2009 SP Legendary Cuts Baseball Product

Company’s latest baseball card launch includes ‘Legendary Cut’ signature cards from MLB icons including Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente and Walter O’Malley!

North Las Vegas, NV (June 3, 2009) – When it comes to turning out the best baseball card sets in history, the Upper Deck Company takes a back seat to no one. Case in point: Upper Deck’s 2009 SP Legendary Cuts Baseball release, which hit store shelves today. The 100-card base set has countless, randomly placed inserts covering yesterday’s and today’s biggest stars via game-used memorabilia cards as well as autographed and signature-cut cards. Some of the “Legendary Cut” signature cards include scrawls from deceased baseball icons such as “Joltin’ Joe” DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Roberto Clemente, as well as deceased MLB executives including former Dodgers owner Walter O’Malley.

“This year’s SP Legendary Cuts launch left few stones unturned,” said Gabriel Garcia, Upper Deck’s associate baseball brand manager. ”We really pulled out all the stops.”

Chock full of some of the most sought-after baseball signatures on the planet, 2009 SP Legendary Cuts could yield big dividends for lucky collectors. And this year’s postage-stamp style look of the cards is already impressing enthusiastic hobbyists.

“We had our third annual SP Legendary Cuts case-cracking party on Sunday,” said Chuck Nieman of Newhall, California-based Card Connection,” and just about every one of the 60 customers who showed up commented on how much they liked the design of the cards. And even though we didn’t pull any major deceased player’s card, we did pull a lot of recognizable players who haven’t made appearances in SP Legendary Cuts for years.”

In this year’s release, Upper Deck went all out to make sure that true baseball legends really filled the content quota. And with four memorabilia cards and seven Upper Deck 20th Anniversary Retrospective inserts in every box, baseball card historians and aficionados will be more than pleased with their pack-cracking discoveries this year. In fact, the “Legendary Memorabilia” insert lineup boasts four distinct color parallels (Blue, Olive Green, Brown and Red) to keep pack-cracking duties at a fever pitch.

The hard-signed autographed component in the 2009 product is comprised of: “Classic Signatures,” numbered up to 99, with names including Ernie Banks, Carl Yastrzemski, Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton; “Future Legends,” numbered up to 149, including Josh Beckett, Derek Jeter, Cole Hamels and Ken Griffey Jr.; and “Generations Dual” signature cards, numbered up to 99, boasting combos like Nolan Ryan/Randy Johnson, Don Mattingly/Derek Jeter, Carlton Fisk/Jason Varitek and Reggie Jackson/Prince Fielder.

But the true “Legendary Cut” rare pulls from this outstanding release will be found coming from the likes of DiMaggio, Williams, Clemente and O’Malley. These sought-after cards fall at an average of two per case, while special “Mystery Cut Signature Redemption” cards fall at a rate of one per case, on average.

Upper Deck’s 2009 SP Legendary Cuts Baseball yields five cards per pack, with 12 packs per box. The product is available in stores now.
