Hideo Nomo Autographed Baseball for Peter O’Malley from the day of Nomo’s first Dodger contract, February 13, 1995

1995

Hideo Nomo, known as “Warrior,” became the first Japan-born player in 30 years to sign a major league contract with the Dodgers on February 13, 1995. Dodger President Peter O’Malley had met with Nomo and convinced him that the Dodgers would be the perfect fit for the talented right-handed pitcher to challenge the world’s best hitters. Nomo was a free agent from the Nippon Professional Baseball Pacific League Kintetsu Buffaloes and was ready to bring his talents to the Dodgers. Once Nomo signed
with the Dodgers, he also autographed a baseball for O’Malley on the memorable day of his first agreement.
