Third Class, Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Ray with Neck Ribbon medal presented to Peter O’Malley

This medal, Third Class, Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Ray with Neck Ribbon was presented to Peter O’Malley on the field during pregame ceremonies at Dodger Stadium on July 8, 2015. The presentation was made by Hidehisa Horinouchi, Japan Consul General in Los Angeles, and is the highest honor from the Japan Government to a non-Japanese citizen. The award was established on April 10, 1875 and O’Malley was recognized for his more than 60 years promoting friendly relations through baseball between Japan and the United States and the development of Japan’s baseball world. Conferred by Emperor Akihito, O’Malley was celebrated for his efforts to encourage baseball in Japan, where he has made approximately 85 visits.
