Kevin O’Malley passed away peacefully from complications of sepsis at Serenity House in Santa Barbara, California, on June 30, 2026, at the age of 50.
Kevin was born in Los Angeles on July 28, 1975. He was the son of Annette and Peter O’Malley, President of the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1970 to 1998, and grandson of Kay and Walter O’Malley, Baseball Hall of Fame member and Dodgers owner from 1944 to 1979. Kevin attended The Buckley School and graduated from Harvard-Westlake in 1993 as an accomplished student-athlete. In 1997, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he played varsity baseball, and earned his MBA from The Wharton School in 2004.
In 2004, Kevin married the love of his life, Allison Gelb. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in faith, adventure, laughter, and unconditional love. He was a devoted husband and proud father to Grace, Brendan, Brooke, and Margaret, who were his greatest source of joy. He celebrated every milestone, encouraged every dream, and led by example.
Kevin combined an entrepreneurial spirit with a lifelong passion for sports and investing. He worked in the Dodger organization at Great Falls, Montana and Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida. After college, he and his cousin and business partner Tom Seidler co-founded Top of the Third, which operated Minor League Baseball franchises including the Mudville Nine and the Visalia Rawhide. In 2010, he founded Carmelina Capital Partners, serving as an invaluable and loyal partner to growing companies. In 2012, he helped structure the acquisition of the San Diego Padres and invested in the team alongside the Seidler and O’Malley families, continuing his family’s baseball legacy. He also proudly served on the Board of Trustees of St. Matthew’s Parish School, helping lead the school’s recovery after the 2025 Palisades Fire.
Kevin’s love of sports and adventure shaped his life. He was a talented athlete who loved baseball, martial arts, golf, fishing, spearfishing, and diving. The ocean was one of his happiest places, whether on a boat or exploring beneath the surface.
A man of character, Kevin approached life with determination, curiosity, and gratitude. He was steady, humble, gracious, and deeply loyal—a trusted friend relied upon for wise counsel and thoughtful perspective. He had an infectious optimism and a smile that put people at ease. He made people feel seen and valued, giving freely of his time, encouragement, wisdom, and love.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Allison; his children, Grace, Brendan, Brooke, and Margaret; his father, Peter O’Malley; his siblings, Katherine (niece Chloe and nephew Peter) and Brian O’Malley (wife Katie, niece Autumn, and nephew Julian); and a large extended family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annette.
Though his time was far too short, Kevin lived life to the fullest, and his impact will last well beyond his years. His reputation lives on in the family he adored, the friendships he nurtured, and the lives he touched through his generosity, humility, and love.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
