This Day in Walter O’Malley History: January 5

Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully writes a letter to Walter O’Malley to express his appreciation for the organizational ring that he received. Scully writes, “As for the ring, every time I look at it I can only think of how more than nice you folks have been to me during the past four years, including a planned trip to Phoenix and a most enjoyable though surprising trip to Montreal! I don’t know what if anything I can do to be of help to the ballclub or to you but if anything should arise I sure wish you’d try me.” The incomparable Scully became the Dodgers’ lead broadcaster in 1954 and continued in that role through the 2016 season.
