Color Slides taken by Peter O’Malley during the 1956 Dodgers Goodwill Tour to Japan

1956

Peter O’Malley was 18 years old during his first trip to Japan, traveling with his parents and his sister. He was captivated by the beauty of the country, its people and the appreciation of baseball fans to the Dodgers. O’Malley saw the friendships and goodwill that were made during the trip. He carried a camera with him and took several color slides, among them one of a young Vin Scully, Dodger broadcaster on the field holding colorful balloons prior to a game. Scully, the greatest baseball broadcaster ever, was just 28 years old when the tour started and he and Peter O’Malley were roommates.
